The College provides a confidential counselling service for all
undergraduate and postgraduate students. Counselling offers an
opportunity to talk about personal issues in a private and relaxed
setting with someone who plays no other role in your college life. If
you have a personal or work-related problem or if you are feeling
unhappy, anxious or depressed, you are welcome to contact the College
Counsellor, Helen Acton.
Helen sees students in her room in Angel Court. If you would like to
book an appointment with her, you can email her at
counsellor@trin.cam.ac.uk or leave
her a voicemail on 01223 761532, and she will get back to you as soon as
she can. This email address and voicemail are entirely private to Helen.
At the first meeting, you and Helen will talk through the issues
concerning you. You can then decide together whether further counselling
is the best way forward. Some people find one or two sessions helpful,
whilst others decide they would like to come for further sessions over a
period of weeks. Sessions generally last for 50 minutes.
Helen is a Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and
Psychotherapy) and is a Registered Member of the UKCP (UK Council for
Psychotherapy); she is bound by and adheres to their ethical frameworks.
As Helen may not always be able to see you immediately, whilst you are on her waiting list you may find one of the topic-specific groups run by the University Counselling Service extremely helpful in the short term.
