Travelling to Cambridge

Cambridge is accessible from London's three major international airports.

From Heathrow. There are three ways of travelling from Heathrow to Cambridge.

1.Take the JetLink coach from the main Heathrow Bus Station, which is located in the central concourse of the airport between terminals 1, 2, and 3. (If you are arriving at Terminal 4, the Cambridge coach usually leaves from bays 12-13 of the separate coach station there.) Coach is the most direct method of travel from Heathrow to Cambridge, but it can be a somewhat tedious and uncomfortable journey after a long flight. Make sure you purchase a return (about £26) rather than two singles (about £40). Waiting time: up to two hours. Journey time: about three hours. Cost: about £26 return. Timetables are available at http://www.gobycoach.com/ or by telephoning 08705-80 80 80.

2. Take the Tube from Heathrow to King's Cross (5 minutes wait; about 50 minutes journey time), and then the WAGN train from King's Cross to Cambridge (no more than 30 minutes wait; about 60 minutes journey time). Cost: about £28 return. WAGN timetables are available at http://www.rail.co.uk/ukrail/planner/planner.htm or by phoning 08457-48 49 50.

3. Take the Heathrow Express from Heathrow to Paddington (no more than 15 minutes wait; 15 minutes journey time). Then take the eastbound Circle Line Tube to King's Cross (25 minutes). Then take the WAGN train from King's Cross to Cambridge (details as above). Cost: about £40 return.

Taxis are prohibitively expensive.

From Gatwick. There are two main ways of getting from Gatwick to Cambridge.

1. Take the Jetlink coach from Gatwick to Cambridge.

2. Take the Gatwick Express to Victoria. Take the Victoria Line Tube to King's Cross. From there take the WAGN train to Cambridge (details above).

Taxis are prohibitively expensive.

From Stansted. Cambridge is just 25 miles north of Stansted airport. It can be reached from there by bus, train, or taxi.

1. Several buses, including the X6, run between Stansted and Cambridge. The information desk at the airport will provide information about timetables and where to catch buses. Buses run somewhat less frequently than the train but are possibly marginally cheaper.

2. The rail station is beneath the airport. Trains run regularly from Stansted to Cambridge. Timetable information is available by phoning 08457-48 49 50 or at:

http://www.rail.co.uk/ukrail/planner/planner.htm.

3. Stansted Airport Limited has appointed a single private hire company, Stansted Airport Cars. to operate taxis from Stansted. Bookings can be made at their desk on the international arrivals concourse. Cars are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is the most expensive way of getting to Cambridge. Travel can sometimes be slow during rush hour.

Cambridge and Cars. Cambridge is an extremely difficulty city to bring a car to. Parking spaces are limited and expensive. There is strictly no parking in Trinity College, and the conference organisers are unable to provide parking elsewhere for delegates' cars.
