ANGLO-SAXON CHARTERS

The Electronic Sawyer
an online version of the revised edition of
Sawyer's Anglo-Saxon Charters
section one [S 1-1602]

prepared under the auspices of the

British Academy / Royal Historical Society
Joint Committee on Anglo-Saxon Charters

by S. E. Kelly

and adapted for the WWW by S. M. Miller

The table below serves as a key to the principal contents of Professor Sawyer's Anglo-Saxon Charters: an Annotated List and Bibliography. The entries, in their revised and updated form, have been divided into a series of separate files, each representing the charters of a particular group of rulers, or of a particular king. The files currently available online are those to which links have been provided (indicated by underlining); the files not yet available will become available as the process of the conversion of each file from standard to web-readable 'html' format continues.

NOTE It would appear that certain special characters in the files appear correctly when the files are read with certain web-browsers (e.g. on a PC) but in some other unintended form when read on a Mac, or vice versa. For example, on a Mac, 'smart' quotes appear on the screen as a-circumflex. These glitches are unsightly, and will be ironed out as opportunity allows.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL USERS OF THE ELECTRONIC SAWYER

Your corrections, contributions and comments will be most gratefully received.

Users of this material are hereby invited to check any aspect of it in which they might have a particular interest (e.g. coverage of references to charters in their own publications, or in particular books or articles with which they are especially familiar). Users are also invited to submit lists of references to individual charters (organised under Sawyer numbers, in the normal manner of existing entries), in articles or books (whether of their own, or by others) which appear to have been overlooked, or which were published in 1999 or thereafter. If anything seems in need of correction, or if additions might usefully be made, please send an email, marked, under Subject, for the Electronic Sawyer. This information will be collected, for purposes of incorporation on the web and for incorporation in the printed version, subject to general editorial approval by the Joint Committee on Anglo-Saxon Charters.
