All members will be subject to random constitution testing. This could occur at any time without any notice so always be prepared.

Trinity College Jewish Society Constitution

  1. The name of the Society shall be Trinity College Jewish Society (henceforth TCJS).
     
  1. The aim of the Society shall be to organize socials and events relating to Jewish culture. A pluralist atmosphere shall be encouraged at all meetings.
     
  1. Membership shall be open to all members of Trinity College. The subscription shall be fixed annually by the Committee prior to the Michaelmas Term. The Committee may choose to offer Life Membership for a single fee.
     
  1. The Officers and Committee shall be responsible for the organisation of the Society.
    1. There shall be a Committee consisting of the following members: President, Junior Treasurer, Ents Officer. These positions may not be held jointly.
    2. The officers shall be elected annually at an AGM in Easter Term to hold office for one year. Only members of Trinity College Jewish Society shall be eligible to vote.
    3. Nominations shall be opened one week before the AGM and closed at 2pm one day before the meeting. Where no nominations are received, the Chairman may take nominations at the Meeting.
    4. The method of voting shall be by the single transferable vote. For all positions "Re-open nominations" shall be a possibility.
    5. The Chairman shall have overriding responsibility for the conduct of the elections and nominations, subject to a vote of no confidence in his/her ruling. S/he shall not vote in elections, but shall have a casting vote.
    6. There shall be a Senior Treasurer, as required by Sch 2 of the Constitution of the Trinity College Students Union, who shall act in an advisory capacity, approve the accounts, and be a signatory on the society’s bank account. The Senior Treasurer shall not be liable for any debt or other obligation of the society except where he or she has personally authorized it in writing
       
  1. The Junior Treasurer shall submit annual accounts to the Amalgamated Clubs Committee of Trinity College when requested in the Michaelmas term. These accounts shall be audited by the Senior Treasurer or someone appointed by him or her.
     
  2. All food and drink provided at meetings shall be kosher. Non-members shall be welcome to attend meetings but where there is a charge for entry shall be required to pay a higher, ‘non-member’ rate. TCJS may not hold a meeting on a Shabbat or festival that would require those attending to break the laws governing that day.
     
  3. The roles of the Committee positions shall be:

    Ents Officer:
    - To plan, in conjunction with the President, events for the term.

    Junior Treasurer:
    - To maintain the bank account of TCJS.
    - To provide advice on budgeting for members of the Committee.

    President:
    - To ensure, with the co-operation and assistance of the Committee, the successful organisation of the term.
    - To encourage participation of as many students as possible in the activities of the Society.
    - To provide leadership for the Committee and for the Society.
