Target Oxbridge

Target Oxbridge/Trinity College Programme for Year 10 Students

We have launched a new programme for Year 10 students in partnership with Target Oxbridge! Target Oxbridge is a free programme that aims to help Black African and Caribbean students and students of mixed race with Black African and Caribbean heritage increase their chances of getting into the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge. Since launching in 2012, Target Oxbridge has helped over 200 students to secure Oxbridge offers.

This free online programme will provide students the opportunity to gain an early insight into life at Cambridge and how to secure a Cambridge place.

The Impact...

“Going to Cambridge changed my life. Nothing I have done would have been possible without it. I want more people from backgrounds like mine to have that life-changing experience. That’s what Target Oxbridge is about and that’s why I am proud to be its patron.

Zadie Smith

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

The programme will consist of four online webinars, taking place once a month between April and July 2021. Students will have the chance to hear from Black Oxford and Cambridge students and graduates, the Target Oxbridge team, and the Trinity College, Cambridge team. The webinars will cover:

  • What Oxbridge is really like and what tutors are looking for
  • How to prepare for an Oxbridge application
  • How degree subject choice can affect career options
  • A mini lecture followed by a Q&A session with a Cambridge tutor

How to Apply

The programme is open to UK-based state school students (or those on a full scholarship at an independent school) in Year 10 and who identify as Black African and Caribbean, or mixed race with Black heritage. The students accepted onto the programme will be predicted at least three GCSEs at grade 7, or will have the potential to achieve these grades but be in need of additional motivation and inspiration.

Applications can be made here. Application Deadline: Sunday 7th February 2021.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Jon Datta at jon.datta@trin.cam.ac.uk if you have any questions or queries about this programme.
