We were delighted to be joined by a small, yet keen, group of alumni golfers on Thursday, 24 June 2021. The group, some of whom are pictured below, enjoyed 18 holes at the University’s home course – Royal Worlington.
Whilst the weather wasn’t quite on the group’s side, the midday shower didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! Robert Fergusson, pictured above, was thrilled to be this year’s winner taking home the trophy.
The group were joined by Phil Pass, Alumni Relations Manager, who was pleased that his last-minute practice in the run up to Golf Day resulted in modest score overall.
It was a true pleasure joining alumni on the fairways of Royal Worlington – a home-from-home for generations of Trinity golfers. Friendly competition and a wonderful afternoon of getting to know members of the College.
The 9 holes at Royal Worlington are laid on gently undulating sandy-based soil that drains well all the year round and has often been called the best 9 hole course in the world.
A modest opening par 5 is followed by a tricky, long par 3 of 220 yards. The 3rd is a short but difficult par 4 requiring accuracy of both tee and approach shot. The 4th is an interesting par 5, requiring a deft touch on the approach. The 5th is a short par 3 where embarrassingly high scores are commonplace. The 6th is a tough par 4 over 460 yards long, the 7th a par 3 normally played in a crosswind across a valley to a quick green. The 8th is another par 4 over 460 yards long, with well-placed bunkers waiting for the unwary player. The 9th is a short par 4 where caution pays dividends, and then the Clubhouse beckons enticingly with its hospitality and refreshments.
