College Network Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for the Use of the College Network

1. The College reserves the right to disable any network connection while investigating suspected non-compliance with the TCDN/CUDN rules and policies. The IT Office will re-enable the network connection when the problem has been resolved satisfactorily. Each user is responsible for all use of his/her assigned network connection.

Network use conditions:

  • Network traffic quotas, outside the Cambridge domain (cam.ac.uk), will be limited to 10 GB (daily), inside the domain will be limited to 30 GB (daily).

2. Every effort must be made to keep networked devices secure against attack; the operating system kept up-to-date with all the recommended patches, service packs, etc.

3. All users must ensure they have anti-virus software installed  on their computers. The anti-virus software must be active while connected to the network and every effort must be made to keep it updated. Free anti-virus software is available for members of the University (see Anti-virus Information).

  1. Connection of wireless networking devices, hubs, switches or routers to the College network is not permitted.
  2. Only IP addresses that are issued by the IT Office shall be used on the TCDN.
  3. Each networked machine must have a unique IP address that is issued by the Trinity IT Office.
  4. Users will need to justify the need for a public IP address and for any more than 4 wired and 4 wireless total IP addresses. This justification will need to be academically related. Approval will be subject to the number of IP addresses available.
  5. The IT Office must be notified of publicly addressable servers on the network (e.g. Web, FTP, NNTP, etc.).
  6. Disguising a true identity on the network (spoofing) is strictly prohibited (e.g. Mac Address, user identification, etc.).
  7. All users must comply with the Trinity Network Policy,  Network Monitoring PolicyUniversity of Cambridge Network Policy  , University of Cambridge – Use and Misuse of Computing Facilities Policy   , JANET Acceptable Use Policy  and Further JANET Network and technology policies 
  8. All personally owned devices must be password protected.

Failure to comply with these conditions may result in disconnection from the network. Your Tutor or Sponsor will be notified in all cases of network disconnection.
