TBCA welcomes you to join us for an evening with the remarkable international businessman David McCourt in conversation.
The changing Soul of the Entrepreneur
There are some who become entrepreneurs. There are some who are able to analyse entrepreneurship.
Very few are both. David McCourt is one of that select band, and for that reason this evening promises to be engaging and provocative.
The son of Irish immigrants to the US, he founded a cable company which grew rapidly to become the US’s largest privately-owned builder of cable networks, before he merged and then sold the company for $14.3 billion. He then repeated the feat, creating Europe’s largest builder of cable systems. He has since started successful ventures across the globe, from Central America to the Middle East and China.
Named “entrepreneur of the year” by Ernst and Young and voted the “Top Entrepreneur” by Harvard Business School Club, McCourt received the first-ever award given by the White House to recognise “extraordinary accomplishments by private sector businesses”.
But inside the businessman lies an original and radical thinker.
His fundamental belief is, that with technology and the increasing pace of change, we need “a total rethink, which will require entrepreneurs to behave like revolutionaries”.
McCourt says that traditional modes of thinking – developed in agricultural and industrial societies – are now ineffective and that revolutionary thinking is required, otherwise we will be in no position to repair the damage we have already done, and prepare for the radical changes ahead.
The conversation with David McCourt will be followed by a Q&A and reception.
