“GAME-CHANGING THE BUSINESS OF TELEVISION”
He has been called by a major national daily “the most influential man in British broadcasting”; few would demur. Sir Peter Bazalgette has had a profound influence on the development of the most popular programmes broadcast in the UK and worldwide. Working as an outsider to the major established television producers, in the process, he has helped drive the development of the independent production sector.
A Cambridge graduate, he moved from the BBC to start his own company and developed for the UK a host of new programmes and formats that appealed to mass audiences, reshaped the television of our era, and were widely emulated worldwide.
His profound influence on the development of television was recognised when he was elected President of the Royal Television Society and later appointed as Chair of the Arts Council of Great Britain.
Tonight Sir Peter will talk about his journey, the challenges he faced, and what he thinks the future may hold for television.
The talk will take place on Wednesday 28 June at Gresham College, Holborn, and will be followed by a reception.
