Graduate Admissions Policy for Members of the College

This note codifies existing College policy.  Prospective graduate students should apply to the University in the first instance, through the University’s Graduate Admissions Office which acts on behalf of the Board of Graduate Studies, with the exception of those applying for certain other courses including the PGCE, MBA, and MB BChir [1]. Once an applicant has been accepted by the University, their application will be circulated to the Colleges in the order of preference expressed in the application.

Trinity will normally offer acceptance for, or continuation of, graduate study in the College to members of the College, whether current or former undergraduates, or graduate students [2].  In certain cases, e.g. if the College considers it to be in the best interests of the College, the student or other students in the College, that the student study elsewhere, the College will pass on the application using the intercollegiate mechanisms for allocating College places.

Graduate study in the College will only be offered to those who receive an official offer of admission from the Graduate Admissions Office, and will only be confirmed once all terms and conditions of the offer have been met.

[1] Applications for some courses are made directly to the appropriate Faculty, Department or Institute

[2] those who are currently, or have previously been, registered as a graduate student at Cambridge on a PhD, MPhil, MRes, MSt, MASt, LLM, MCL, MMus, MEd, Graduate Diploma or a Certificate in Advanced Study in Mathematics (Part III Maths).
