Trinity College is the largest of the 31 Cambridge Colleges in the University of Cambridge, it occupies 31 acres in the centre of Cambridge and consists of some of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the city. It is home to over 1,080 students, 190 Fellows and around 330 staff.
We wish to recruit an Apprentice Painter and Decorator to join the Works Department, which consists of Electricians, Builders, Carpenters, Plumbers, Painters and General Maintenance Assistants.
Working as part of a professional team you will assist in the care and decoration of the College properties carrying out both planned and routine decoration. The work will involve the preparation of surfaces, sanding of surfaces, filling and priming walls (plasterwork and woodwork), undercoating, gloss work, emulsion work using brush and roller, wallpapering, paint effects, internal and external painting and spraying.
You will be working towards the L2 Painter & Decorator Apprenticeship Standard, on a part time course, supplemented by on-site training by the Trinity College decorating team. The typical duration for this qualification is 3 years.

Hours of work are 39 per week with 20% of your time (one day per week) released for College tuition.
Applicants must have at least GCSE Grade 3 in English and Maths and good practical skills. Although no prior experience of decorating is required, we would like to see evidence of an interest in decorating such as through hobbies etc. In addition, you should have excellent communication skills, be motivated and keen to learn, flexible and positive and be able to work as part of a team.
You should have an understanding of safety rules and be able to work at height. You will be expected to climb staircases in old buildings and carry/transport heavy loads and be able to use a cycle (provided) to transport yourself and tools around College and its surrounding sites.
The salary is £19,359 per annum with benefits such as a free meal whilst on duty, 33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays), sports and social club, an employee assistance programme, on-site gym and private health care.
