Trinity College is the largest and one of the most renowned of the Colleges of Cambridge University, with approximately 1,080 students and 190 Fellows who are supported by around 350 staff. The Catering Department provides the food and drink service for the senior and junior members of the College and for staff together with College and special functions. The Department consists of approximately 75 staff which includes Kitchen, Hall, High Table, Bar and Office staff.
We wish to appoint a Bar and Coffee Shop Assistant who will support the smooth running of the Bar and Coffee Shop ensuring the highest possible standards of beverage service are provided.
The role of a Bar and Coffee Shop Assistant within the bar setting can be varied across a shift and the day, from transporting deliveries from the College Kitchens to the Bar, making and serving coffee, soft drinks and the responsibility of serving alcohol together with bar snacks. The role also involves keeping the area clean and tidy, stocking up, the rotation of stock items and having a good knowledge of products within the area in order to help advise customers with questions.
Working in the College Bar is an important role in the College community. It is a student facing role and as a member of the Bar team you will need to have an awareness of your surroundings and be able to have the strength of character to refuse service to a customer who you believe is to be unreasonably under the influence of alcohol or acting inappropriately for the environment.
Training will be provided if needed for, food hygiene, COSHH, Personal Alcohol Licence, and manual handling.
You will have excellent customer service skills, responding to customers in a polite, helpful and courteous manner, be able to demonstrate good organisational skills, be enthusiastic and have a professional attitude towards work. You should also be creative, suggesting ways to improve bar services and incorporate new systems as required. A high standard of personal hygiene and general physical fitness is required together with a good knowledge of relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene.
Experience in hospitality would be desirable but not essential.
The role is part time role, working 37.5 hours per week, term time only over 35 weeks per year. It involves working on a rota system including days, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
A salary of up to £14,710 pa (FTE of £21,960pa) is offered which includes a shift allowance with additional benefits which include, free lunch when working in College, cycle to work scheme, a subsidised gym and free private health and dental care subject to eligibility.
