Executive Director of Alumni Relations & Development

Trinity College seeks an outstanding fundraiser for the position of Executive Director of Alumni Relations & Development. This is a key senior, strategic position for the College and comes at an exciting time as it looks to launch a major campaign, the focus of which will be student support and access programmes (including scholarships and awards), and the creation of a wider Trinity community by better connecting alumni with each other, with students and with the College.

Trinity College is renowned as the most prestigious and academic college at the University of Cambridge. Founded by Henry VIII in 1546, it has a long history of providing bursaries and scholarships to students of all backgrounds and founded the University’s Isaac Newton Trust and Cambridge Bursary Scheme. Trinity also makes sizeable donations to other colleges, supporting students across the University.

As one of the largest Colleges, the Development and Alumni office at Trinity engages with approximately 15,000 alumni. Just over six years ago, the College’s fundraising efforts were put on a solid footing, and in that period the College has raised more than £45 million.  The College has good relationships with its alumni in general, and very well-established relationships with those who are capable of giving at a substantial level – its future fundraising potential is significant.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a well-run and effective office with the potential to raise transformational gifts.

The Executive Director’s role will be to lead a committed team of 11 staff to deliver an ambitious programme of philanthropy to support the College’s ambitions.  Responsible for the delivery of an integrated fundraising programme, they will cultivate and secure major gifts as well as have overall responsibility for the College’s comprehensive alumni relations programme.

The successful candidate will be a target-driven individual with the gravitas and intellect required to operate effectively at such a senior level. Essential prerequisites include a track record of establishing and achieving fundraising targets through securing major gifts; experience of building a case for support; excellent leadership skills; keen attention to detail; an ability to work collaboratively within a complex organisational structure and a demonstrable ability to quickly form positive relations with the fellowship, staff, students, alumni and others.

The successful candidate will join one of the world’s leading academic institutions to lead a well-run and effective office with the potential to raise gifts at a transformational level.  This is a career-defining opportunity for an outstanding major gifts fundraiser.

The salary will be £60,000 to £75,000 and dependent upon experience.
