Trinity College, founded in 1546 by Henry VIII, is the largest College in the University of Cambridge, with some 730 undergraduates, 350 graduate students, over 180 Fellows and around 350 non-academic staff. The beauty and size of Trinity’s courts attract visitors from all over the world, but the College is also a thriving, modern community, which exists to give its members a rewarding, richly resourced, and intellectually inspiring place in which to pursue their education and research.
Due to a reorganisation of our Bursary function, we wish to recruit two qualified accountants, reporting to the Director of Finance.
Senior Accountant – Endowment Support
The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial recording and reporting of external assets and income of the College which is derived from investments in property and securities. This will involve the preparation of quarterly/annual management accounts, forecasts and budgets, the preparation of reports, including consolidation and statutory accounts for year end and assisting with the clearing of auditor queries. This will also involve working closely with Bidwells who manage the investment property portfolio for the College.
The role will be expected to provide proactive support and insight to the investment management team to help with forward planning on a long term horizon.
You will be a qualified accountant with securities trading and administering experience, the integration of significant subsidiary companies and knowledge of UK/overseas taxation regulations relating to securities. Knowledge of property or investment management would be desirable.
Senior Accountant – Reporting
The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial recording and reporting of operational income and expenditure of the College which is derived from all activities which are not investment related. This will involve the preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual management accounts, forecasts and budgets for operational activities as well as assisting in the preparation of consolidation reports and statutory accounts for year end.
This position will also be expected to work with Senior Managers to manage, plan and prioritise resource allocations over both the short and long term to realise the College’s key objectives.
You will be a qualified accountant with experience of producing accounts and reports for financial committees, working with multiple departments and ‘branches’ as part of integrated management accounting together with good knowledge of UK taxation. Process mapping, implementation of accounting software and working with higher education would be desirable.
Both positions will require strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent Excel skills including VLookups and Pivot tables. You should have good communication skills, working within a team environment for a diverse set of stakeholders together with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines. The analytical ability to work with the finer details at a micro level at the same time having a strong understanding of the purpose and aims of the College as a whole is essential.

Rate of Pay: £45,612 per annum.
