Trinity College is seeking to appoint a Senior Porter to join the Porter’s Lodge team.  Trinity is the largest of the 31 Cambridge Colleges and is home to over 1000 students, 187 Fellows and around 320 staff.  Trinity has changed greatly over the centuries, but the strong academic tradition has been maintained and College life is lively and diverse.  As well as ensuring the safety and security of the College, Porters are the “public” face of the College and so are required to treat everyone with respect, dignity and fairness whilst delivering first class customer service.

Working as a member of the Porter’s Lodge management team the successful candidate will manage one of the shift teams (up to 12 staff) in order to deliver a professional customer focused service for the College. The Porter’s Lodge, and its staff, are likely to be the first point of contact for many who come to Trinity therefore, you must have a proven record of accomplishment in providing first-class high-profile service delivery to a wide range of people in a variety of situations.

The role involves ensuring the safety and security of the College and its members, being responsible for “running” the Lodge whilst on shift, dealing with emergencies, and supporting the Head Porter in all aspects of fire safety and support for high profile functions and visitors.

Candidates must have the ability to lead, motivate and influence their team in order to ensure the highest level of customer service is delivered as well as being able to address any underperformance issues when necessary. Experience in managing, motivating and supervising staff is essential.

The role also requires the post holder to undertake a number of administrative activities such as recording incidents, accident reports, fire safety records and tasks relating to the College mail system and so the post holder must have a working knowledge of Word and Excel.

The Senior Porter will work 39 hours per week covering a 7 day per week rota and must be prepared to attend for additional hours when necessary or as requested by the College.  A shift system is in operation for Senior and Gate Porters, which includes evening and night duties.  A full uniform is provided.

Salary: £29,299 per annum plus additional benefits, which include subsidised gym, free lunch when on duty in College and Private Health and Dental Care subject to eligibility.
