Trinity network connections for Fellows, Other Senior Members and Students
Wired Trinity Connections (College accommodation/office occupants)
All Fellow’s and student’s rooms in College have access to a wireless point or computer network point (an ethernet socket) that can be used to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. A wired connection will be more reliable and provide a better connection speed than a wireless connection. Some devices may require an Ethernet adapter in order to make use of the wired network.
Registering from the device you want to add to the network:
What you will need:
- To have your University Account Login (formerly known as Raven) and have the details of this ready
- To have a device that can connect to networks using an ethernet cable (and adapter if applicable)
- To have located the Ethernet port in your College room
- To have an Ethernet cable that is under 5 meters long
- To have read all the Policies and Terms & Conditions of connection to the College Network (also available on the initial connection portal)
How to Connect:
- Find the Ethernet port in your room
- Plug the Ethernet cable into the ethernet port in your room
- Connect the other end of the cable to the ethernet port on your device directly or with an adapter if required (which must be purchased at your own cost)
- After a few seconds, your device should prompt you to log into the network
- Click ‘Login to network’ to open the login page in your device’s preferred browser
- Select ‘Raven Login’ and provide your raven credentials when prompted
- Click Login
- Unplug the ethernet cable from your device, wait 10 seconds and reconnect the cable to the device
- You will now be connected to the wired network on this device
Wireless Trinity Network
Registering from the device you want to add to the network:
What you will need:
- To have a device that can connect to Wi-Fi networks
- To have disabled any MAC randomiser settings on the device (see troubleshooting)
- To have a University Account Login (formerly known as Raven) and have the details of this ready
- To have read all the Policies and Terms & Conditions of connection to the College Network (also available on the initial connection portal)
How to Connect:
On the device you wish to connect to the network:
- Open wireless network settings and select ‘TRIN-REGISTRATION’ from the list of available Select Wireless Networks
- Click ‘Login to this network’
- Click ‘University Account Login (Students and Fellows)’ to login using your University Account Login (formerly known as Raven)
- When given the success confirmation page, return to your device’s wireless settings and select ‘TRIN-WIFI’ from the list of available Wireless Networks
- Enter the network password when prompted: NewtonsApple
- You are now connected on this device
Troubleshooting
To connect to the College wifi (TRIN-WIFI) your device must connect to both the TRIN-REGISTRATION and TRIN-WIFI SSIDs with the same device MAC address. If you find you have connected to TRIN-REGISTRATION but can’t then connect to TRIN-WIFI please check these settings:
Android (exact details may differ depending on device):
- Connect to TRIN-REGISTRATION
- Login to the portal
- Look at the details for TRIN-REGISTRATION and change the setting from Randomised MAC address to Use device MAC/Use Phone MAC
- The portal should open again – login.
- Then when connecting to TRIN-WIFI you should be able to select Use device Mac before connecting
- Once connected to TRIN-WIFI choose to forget the TRIN-REGISTRATION network

- Before connecting to TRIN-REGISTRATION and TRIN-WIFI, select further information for each SSID (the letter i in a circle next to the name)
- Turn off Use private address
- Connect to TRIN-REGISTRATION
- Login
- Connect to TRIN-WIFI
Windows 10:
- Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi
- Turn off Use random hardware addresses
Adding a device manually to the wired or wireless network, that cannot be added using the method(s) above:
What you will need:
- To have a device that can connect to Wi-Fi networks
- To have a Raven account and have the details of this ready
- Know the MAC address of the device you wish to add – What’s this?
- To have read all the Policies and Terms & Conditions of connection to the College Network (also available on the initial connection portal)
For adding wired devices you will also need the following:
- To have a device that can connect to networks using an ethernet cable (and adapter if applicable)
- To have located the Ethernet port in your College room
- To have an Ethernet cable that is under 5 meters long
How to Connect:
Use a device, which is already connected to ‘TRIN WIFI’ to
- Browse to the Manual Device Management Site ( https://devices.trin.private.cam.ac.uk/ )
- Log in using your University Account Login (formerly known as Raven)
- Click ‘register a device’
- Enter a name for the device you wish to add to the network e.g. ‘myxbox’
- Enter the appropriate MAC address for the device you wish to add to the network in the format indicated ( eg 01:23:45:67:89:AB).
- For adding a Wireless device, you will need to use the wireless MAC address and for wired, the wired MAC address.
- Click ‘Save’
- Using the device you have just added to the manual registration site, select ‘TRIN-WIFI’ from the list of available Select Wireless Networks
- Enter the network password ‘NewtonsApple’
- You are now connected on this device
- If you were adding a wired device you will also need to:
- Find the ethernet port in your room
- Plug the Ethernet cable which was provided to you by the accommodation office on your arrival in your first year to the ethernet port in your room
- If you were adding a wired device you will also need to:
- Using the device you have just added to the manual registration, connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your device directly or with an adapter if required (which is purchased at your own cost)
- You are now connected on this device

Wireless networks at Trinity – Staff connection
What you will need:
- To have a device that can connect to Wi-Fi networks
- To have a Trinity Account and have the details of this ready
- To have read all the Policies and Terms & Conditions of connection to the College Network (also available on the initial connection portal)
How to connect your personal device to the College Wi-Fi:
On the device you wish to connect to the network:
- Open the wireless network settings
- Select ‘TRIN-REGISTRATION’ from the list of available wireless networks
- When prompted, click ‘Login to this network’
- Click ‘Staff Computer Login’
- Use your Trinity Account login details to fill out the username and password fields
- Click ‘Log In’
- When given the success confirmation page, return to your device’s wireless settings
- Now select ‘TRIN-WIFI’ from the list of available Wireless Networks
- Enter the network password when prompted: NewtonsApple
- You are now connected on this device
Wireless networks at Trinity – Guest connection
What you will need:
- To have a device that can connect to Wi-Fi networks
- To be an individual not formally associated with the organisation but to whom services are being provided under the organisation’s missions, such as access to its library or similar resources.
- Have your Network Authorisation Details sheet ready
- To have read all the Policies and Terms & Conditions of connection to the College Network (also available on the initial connection portal)
How to connect your personal device to the College Wi-Fi:
On the device you wish to connect:
- Open wireless network settings
- Select ‘TRIN-GUEST’ from the list of available Wireless Networks
- When prompted, click ‘Login to this network’
- Enter your username and password from your Network Authorisation Details in the two boxes and click ‘Submit’
- You are now connected on this device
