Alumni are members of the College for life and there are many opportunities and benefits to be gained from staying connected to Trinity, wherever you are based.
On this page you can find details about visiting the College, attending alumni events in the UK and overseas, joining Associations, volunteering, or other ways to support the College and current students.
For the most up-to-date information regarding upcoming events and our alumni associations, please follow the relevant links on the right.
If you have any questions, please contact the Alumni Office via email at alumni@trin.cam.ac.uk or call us on +44 (0)1223 761527.
Alumni are entitled to a Members’ Card, which allows easy entry to the College.
Your Members’ Card should also enable you to visit any other College or College building, including King’s College Chapel. All Colleges make an exception for members of the University, whether currently resident or returning for a visit.
If you have any questions, or require a Members’ Card, please contact us (do remember to confirm the postal address you would like your card to be sent to).
Visits to College do not need to be arranged in advance, and you may bring a maximum of four guests. Please show your Trinity Members’ Card at the Porters’ Lodge at Great Gate, or at the Queen’s Road end of The Avenue.
Please note that occasionally there may be exceptional circumstances which will result in members and their guests not being able to gain entry to some areas of the College. We also ask that you respect the privacy of current members living in College and note that it is generally not possible to visit your old rooms.
The College has a small number of rooms available for alumni overnight stays during visits to Cambridge, which are available at a special alumni rate. Please contact the Accommodation Office to check availability.
Please note – available rooms are single occupancy. We are unable to accommodate under 18s.
Eligibility:
The College is pleased to welcome back Members of the College on up to four occasions per year to dine at High Table, at no charge. Wine may be taken in the Combination Room following dinner, also at no charge. To be eligible to take advantage of these Dining Privileges you must either:
- Have Matriculated and completed a BA degree at Trinity and hold the status of (or be eligible to be awarded) the Cambridge MA, or
- Have Matriculated and completed the minimum of a 1 year course (e.g. MLitt, MPhil, PhD), and be at least six years and one term since your Matriculation
Cancellations:
Please note there are likely to be a number of occasions each year on which MAs cannot be accommodated in this way – e.g. special dinners or other College events. Out of term time, High Table may, unfortunately, be cancelled at relatively short notice due to a small number of Fellows dining that day. Any cancellations will be communicated with as much notice as possible.
Guests:
For reasons of space, MAs may not bring guests when exercising their Dining Privilege. Once per year, an MA may apply for the Vice-Master’s permission to bring (and pay for) a guest. Again, due to limited space, we regret that groups numbering greater than six in size will not be able to dine using their MA Dining Privileges (if larger groups would like to dine in College, please contact catering.bookings@trin.cam.ac.uk to find out more about available packages).
Booking:
If you wish to dine, the first step is to enquire with the Catering Office for availability, either in writing (The Catering Manager, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ) or by email (catering@trin.cam.ac.uk) or by telephone (01223 338547 between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday). Please also let us know if there are any Fellows whom you would particularly like to meet when you come to dine (although we cannot guarantee that they will be able to dine). A list of upcoming alumni diners is published in the Fellows’ Parlour each week.
Dinner is at 8pm during Full Term and at 7.30pm in vacation; sherry is available in the Fellows’ Parlour half an hour beforehand. Please note that a gown should be worn only by those MAs who are resident in Cambridge.
The Wren Library is normally open to the public between 12 noon and 2pm on Monday to Friday, and 10.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays in term time. Please note that alumni are welcome any time from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and from 10.30 to 12.30pm on Saturdays. Access is via Garrett Hostel Lane. No bookings required. Don’t forget to bring your Members’ Card with you!
Cambridge MAs are entitled to use the University Library and to borrow 20 books for eight weeks. In order to obtain a Reader’s Ticket, you will need to make an appointment with the Library’s Admission Office at least the day before you would like to use the Library. You will need to provide two pieces of supporting documentation, ie personal ID and current proof of home address. If you have only recently received your MA, you should also bring your MA certificate with you. Alumni with a BA can also obtain reader only access.
Alumni are welcome to attend the Trinity Chapel services. Choral Evensong is typically run at 6:15pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday during term time. For up-to-date service times and events, please see the Trinity College Chapel website.
The Punt House on Garrett Hostel Lane is offering chauffeur punts for up to six. It is also possible to ‘self-punt’ in groups of six upon presentation of your Trinity Members’ Card. The punts are accessed from outside the Brewhouse Gate and you will be required to sign in.
For further information please contact the Puntman on 01223 338483.
Alumni are able to ballot for tickets for the May Ball each year. The Alumni Office will be in touch when the ballot opens for alumni, so please keep an eye on communications at the start of the new year.
Alumni are invited back for their first reunion (Annual Gathering) between ten and twelve years after Matriculation. After the first reunion, invitations will be issued at a similar frequency, approximately every ten years.
To ensure you receive your invitations, please be sure to keep your contact details up-to-date.
The Alumni Office annually invites alumni who have graduated within the last ten years to Drinks for Young Alumni at a venue in London. We also aspire to hold more of these events around the country in due course.
Some of Trinity’s Regional Alumni Groups also aim to run similar events in their respective regions.
To ensure you receive an invitation, please update the Alumni Office with your current address and contact information. You can also check the upcoming events page for details once available.
In the January of the relevant year, the Praelector’s Office will contact all those newly eligible for their MA Degree. If you have not received any information, this may be because we do not have your up-to-date mailing address and email contact address. Please ensure that we have your up-to-date mailing address and email contact address. You can update this information yourself on CamSIS by registering for Extended Self-Service.
If you are interested in having your MA conferred, but have not yet received any information either by post or email, please contact the Praelector’s Assistant, Mrs Janice Chambers, via degrees@trin.cam.ac.uk, or by telephone on 01223 338404.
The Alumni Office sends out a number of publications (including the monthly alumni enewsletter, The Fountain and the Annual Record) by email or post throughout the year. If you would like to receive these publications, please ensure your contact details are up-to-date.
Please note that while these publications can be received electronically only, the Alumni Office still requests an updated postal address because some event invitations are sent to alumni residing in specific regions.
