Please read more below about Trinity’s STEM and Biosciences summer events before applying. Please keep in mind that for all our in-person events, all travel and food is covered or reimbursed by Trinity College, so there should be no cost to you. Our events are for current Year 12s in England or Wales, Year 13s in Northern Ireland or S5 in Scotland, to support progression to University. You can apply for one or both of Trinity’s:

  • Bioscience Programme

The STEM Taster Day

12th July

An in-person day at Trinity College, this day will introduce you to scientific problem solving and what it might be like to study a STEM subject at Cambridge, especially aimed at those interested in Natural Sciences. Paul Elliot will be bringing to the college a series of “escape room” tasks, all based around specific skills required to study STEM. Through solving interactive puzzles alongside current students, you will learn about geology, physics, maths, chemistry and zoology.

Day Summary

  • Tours of Trinity College
  • A chance to meet current students and ask questions
  • Lunch at Trinity College
  • Escape room style problem solving

By the end of the day you will have had the opportunity to develop your own critical thinking and analytical skills.

To apply for this event, please follow our online application form, by Midnight 9th June.

The Biosciences Programme

Residential 13th – 14th August

Online Mentoring 18th July, 1st and 22nd August

This programme is designed to support your progression to university to study a subject related to biology, neuroscience or psychology, and in particular for students interested in studying the Psychology and Behavioural Science or Natural Sciences courses at Cambridge.

You will be offered online mentoring on how to create a valid argument, how to write a personal statement and other techniques to support an application to university. You will also be given resources and prior learning so you can make the most of the residential element of this programme.

On the residential you will be immersed in studying topics related to Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology and Biochemistry, and will experience what it might be like to be a student at Cambridge. The programme will include taster talks and sessions taught by our researchers.

There will also be the chance to chat with academics, admissions teams and current students, and to experience living in Trinity College.

Residential Summary

  • Academic sessions
  • Department and College tours
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Trinity College
  • Evening activities with ambassadors
  • Overnight accommodation at Trinity College

To apply for this event, please follow our online application form, by Midnight 9th June.

FAQ

If you have a question which isn’t answered, please register for our newsletter in order to hear about our 2024 launch and direct any questions about the residential to our Schools Liaison Officer at schools.liaison@trin.cam.ac.uk

So you don’t have to spend extra money getting here, we will reimburse your travel to Cambridge, including covering all train tickets costs or fuel costs there and back. Your food here will also be free and provided in our College. Our catering team are used to feeding students with different dietary requirements, so you should be able to enjoy the day at no cost.

Within our application form, you will need to:

  • Tell us your GCSE or equivalent grades, and what you are currently studying. We realise predicted grades can vary across schools so we expect some variation, but you should have a good academic record and be studying academic subjects.
  • Tell us a bit about your interests too, so we can work out if you would be a good fit. Not being offered a place does not mean you wouldn’t be a good fit for studying at Cambridge. We can only offer places to a few students and your interests may just not fit the programme this year.
  • For an in-person visit, it is likely we will ask you for a teacher reference. Please tell us the name and contact of a teacher who we can get in touch with.

We also ask about whether you have a disability and any accessibility or dietary requirements. This is so we can meet any adjustments you may need and is not part of our selection process.

Check back here later to see what sort of topics you might be covering during your visit. In the meantime, you might want to have a look at our Natural Sciences Tripos and Psychology and Behavioural Science degree outlines and subject requirements.

Within your application to the residential, you will need to tell us which subjects you are interested in studying and explain your interest. Telling us this now does not mean you have to apply for this subject at University, and we expect you may be still deciding.

These events are open to students in Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 12 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland). You must attend a non-fee paying school. We will prioritise students from backgrounds which are underrepresented at Cambridge.
