General admission

General admission to the Library is free and we do not operate a booking system. At peak times there may be a short wait to enter as only a limited number of visitors can be in the Library at any one time. Last entry to the Library is 10 minutes before the advertised closing time.

Groups of more than 10

Groups of more than 10 should not join the queue and instead should arrange a separate visit. Visit the Groups page for further information about how to do so.

What's on display

Visitors must stay within the roped off area in the centre of the Library where the exhibition cases are. The cases are covered to protect items on show from light damage but these can be lifted to view the contents.

There is always a selection of treasures on show; we do not guarantee any specific items to be on display, however. This is a working Library where material is frequently consulted by researchers, or items may need conservation treatments and these requirements must take priority. It is not possible to request specific items to be displayed ahead of your visit.

Photography

Visitors are welcome to take photographs within the Library but photography of staff, students or those working in the Library is not permitted. Please be mindful of those working in the space. The majority of items in the display cases can be photographed but with some exceptions, including the manuscript of Winnie-the-Pooh which must not be photographed. Any such items will be clearly marked in the display cases.

Postcards and books for sale

The Library sells a small range of postcards, greetings cards and books. Payment can be made in cash or by card.

The Library is monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV under the College’s CCTV policy.
