Law Taster Day 2025

This event has now taken place. Please sign up to our mailing list if you want to be kept up to date with news about future events.

Trinity College are hosting a free open day for students interested in studying law at Cambridge.

The day will include academic taster sessions, lunch, and a college tour. You will also have a session on applications and personal statements, and an admissions Q&A which we hope will help you in making a competitive application to Cambridge.

You will also get the chance to meet law academics at Trinity and some of our current law students and learn about studying, learning and living law at Trinity.

To apply for the Law Taster Day, you must apply here, by Sunday 10th August at 9pm.

We encourage attendance from students who have an interest in studying Law at Cambridge. Applications will be assessed on applicants’ academic record and their commitment to exploring relevant subjects at a higher level. Trinity College is keen to encourage applications from academically high-achieving students with little or no family tradition of higher education, who are capable of achieving A*AA or equivalent.

Students do not need to be studying any specific subject. All you need is to:

  • attend a UK state school, or be on a full bursary at an independent school.
  • be in Year 13 (England and Wales), S6 (Scotland) or Year 14 (Northern Ireland) in September 2025.
  • be on track to achieve the required grades to study Law at Cambridge (A*AA).
  • be able to attend an in-person event at Trinity College, Cambridge on 12th September 2025.

This is a widening access programme to support students exploring their interests outside of school, and to increase knowledge and experience of Cambridge University, especially for those who may not have a family or school history of going to university or competitive universities.

To apply, please follow this link, before our deadline of Sunday 10th August at 9pm. If you, your family or teachers have any questions about the programme, please get in touch with our Schools Liaison Officers at [email protected].

FAQ

If you have a question which isn’t answered, please direct any questions about the residential to our Schools Liaison Officers at [email protected]

We will reimburse your travel to Cambridge, including train tickets or some fuel costs, if you attend a UK state school. Your food here will also be free and provided in our College. Our catering team are used to feeding students with different dietary requirements, so you should be able to enjoy the day at no cost.

For students who are selected to attend, we can also cover the up-front cost of travel in case this would be a barrier to participation.

Applicants will be selected by reference to their academic record and interest in, and potential for, university study in law, in conjunction with a wide range of widening participation criteria. Trinity College is very keen to encourage applications from academically high-achieving students with little or no family tradition of higher education, who are capable of achieving at least A*AA or equivalent. Accordingly, preference may be given to applicants who:

  • will be the first generation in their family to go to university (i.e., whose parents/carers did not attend university; this excludes siblings); or
  • attend a school that sends few students to Cambridge or Oxford; or
  • are from a region of the UK under-represented at Cambridge, particularly the North East, North West, or South West of England, or anywhere in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; or
  • are from an ethnic group under-represented at Cambridge; or
  • live in an area identified as having lower socio-economic advantage or low progression rates to higher education; or
  • have spent any time in care; or
  • have significant caring responsibilities (e.g. for a parent/carer or siblings that affects their ability/time to study); or
  • are or have been eligible for free school meals, or the 16-19 bursary; or
  • are refugees.

We do also ask about whether you have a disability and any accessibility or dietary requirements. This is so we can teach you and meet any adjustments you may need. What you tell us here is not part of our selection process and will not influence whether you are offered a place.

You do not have to study any specific subjects to apply for this programme or to study Law at Cambridge.

We do however look for students with a track record of strong academic achievement and evidence of exploring their interest in law through extra- and super-curricular activities.

This webinar series is open to students who are in the summer between Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 12 (Northern Ireland) or S5 (Scotland) and Year 13 (England and Wales), Year 14 (Northern Ireland) or S6 (Scotland). You should be going into your final year of school and wishing to apply for University in October 2025.

We will prioritise students who attend state schools, or those receiving a full bursary at their school, and students from backgrounds which are underrepresented at Cambridge.
