On a beautiful day at the College, 90 alumni and their guests gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their matriculation. It was truly heart-warming to witness old friends and familiar groups reuniting, strolling through the College grounds, and revisiting cherished memories. Time may have passed, but recognition was almost instantaneous for many, as laughter and shared stories filled the air.

The day began with tea and cake in the Master’s Lodge, where attendees received an update on the College. The atmosphere was vibrant, with conversations brimming with long-overdue catch-ups, inspiring life stories, and heartfelt reminiscences.

For those who chose to attend, Evensong followed shortly after, featuring a beautiful musical accompaniment by former members of the College Choir, led by Mike Waldron, 2006. The serene service was a moment of reflection and connection.

As evening approached, alumni gathered in Nevile’s Court for pre-dinner drinks, accompanied by the delightful ambiance of the Cloisters. A group photo captured the spirit of the occasion before the resounding call of the gong led everyone to dinner in Hall.

The dinner commenced with a graceful performance by the Choir, setting a poignant tone for the evening. Special thanks go to those who contributed to this memorable start. Three Alumni speakers, Roger Pilgrim, Max King, and Colin Matthews, gave a heartfelt toast to the College during the dinner, reflecting on treasured experiences, fond memories of Fellows, and thoughts for absent friends.

“Some of our best memories are formed “breaking bread…[sic] Of course, “breaking bread” wasn’t just those splendid evenings in Formal Hall, but tea and slices of Fitzbillies’ late and much lamented Chocolate Violet Cake and glasses of cheap, often rather warm sherry from Victoria Wine before dinner.”Roger Pilgrim

“We may have been here for just a short time but coming back to Trinity always feels like coming home. When we walk confidently across the Backs, the porters do not bar our way but tip their hats and greet us with “welcome back, Sir.” It’s always a pleasure to bump into my contemporaries at Trinity, many of whom are here tonight, and also to discover that people I have got to know were here also – in one case, occupying the same rooms.” – Max King

“In a fast-changing world, Trinity is that rare thing – unchanging in its outward appearance- while operating at the cutting edge of innovation, whether it be teaching, business partnerships, or the continuous renovation of the college and its facilities. We’ve been grateful to enjoy the hospitality of the college tonight, and I know we give our wholehearted support to Trinity as it continues to evolve, adapt and strive to making that unique difference happen for all students regardless of background.” – Colin Matthews

The evening concluded with post-dinner drinks under the Wren, which was illuminated in a stunning array of colours, providing a perfect backdrop for the final moments of the event.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us for this special event. It was a joy to welcome so many of you back to the College and to celebrate this memorable occasion together.
