College Crest

Around 220 alumni who matriculated in 1978, 1979 and 1980 came back to college on 26 July, 2025 for their latest reunion.

After a rather rainy start, we were in for a lovely afternoon with alumni strolling through the College, reconnecting with old friends as they crossed paths. Despite the years apart, most recognitions were nearly instant!

After check-in, everyone gathered under the Wren for tea and cake, while receiving an update on the latest happenings at the College. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, excitement, and heartfelt conversations, as long-awaited catch-ups and personal stories unfolded.

For those interested, Evensong came next, featuring a remarkable performance by the current College Choir.

Pre-dinner drinks and the group photo were held in Nevile’s Court. At the sound of the gong, alumni and Fellows proceeded for dinner.

We extend our gratitude to Amanda North, 1978, Louise Ireland DL, 1979, and Guy Newcombe, 1980, for delivering the Toast to the College after dinner, sharing reflections on developments since their days at Trinity and fondly reminiscing about their time in College.

“Now mind you, I had never rowed before, but it was pretty clear that the heartbeat of Cambridge is the Cam. Several other plucky young ladies (also with little or no rowing experience) thought it sounded like fun, so down to the boathouse we went… [sic] Through many early mornings and exhausting outings, we jelled as a team and became close friends… [sic] I have vivid memories of jogging through Great Court lighted by a waning moon, enveloped by the palpable sense of history emanating from the grey stone walls.”Amanda North, 1978.

“… [sic] at the time – 1982 – and throughout that final year, I had the overwhelming feeling of helplessly accelerating, hurtling towards the edge of a cliff … and the outside world. I savoured life here even more. Of course, it was all the special places that I was leaving – the Backs, Great Court, sitting in the window at Belinda’s, as well as having the time and capacity to read, to study, to debate – but mostly it was the easy access to a great bunch of people. I certainly wasn’t prepared to leave that!” – Louise Ireland DL, 1979.

“Tonight, we are joined by philosophers, novelists, TV producers, professors, ambassadors, doctors, and the odd OBE. All of us share a common experience: fog in Great Court, changing trains at Royston, lunch with the Hodgkins in the Master’s Lodge. It was a very special time.” – Guy Newcombe, 1980.

The evening concluded with post-dinner drinks under the Wren, which was spectacularly illuminated in technicolour.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended this year’s gathering. It was a pleasure to welcome so many alumni back to College to celebrate the enduring bonds of our Trinity community and to create lasting memories together.
