College Policies

Dignity, Respect and Inclusion

Trinity College is committed to protecting the dignity of students, Fellows and staff as members of its community in their work, their study, and their interactions with each other, and to protect the dignity of all those who visit or interact with the College. The College recognises its duties of care to students, to Fellows and to staff. The College is committed to maintaining a learning, living, and working environment in which the rights and dignity of all members of the College community are respected.

White Book

The ‘White Book’ of Regulations and General Information is intended for all students of the College. It contains information on the College’s academic, tutorial and welfare arrangements; the College’s facilities and policies; as well as the College’s formal Code of Discipline. All students are expected to be familiar with the contents of the ‘White Book’. There is a separate booklet for all matters concerning Accommodation.

Wellbeing and Welfare

Fellows and staff of the College work together to support our students. The chart below gives a quick guide to their roles. We also acknowledge that studying and researching at Cambridge is demanding, especially for those with pre-existing mental or physical health conditions. Drugs and alcohol abuse could also be a symptom of personal problems or difficulties. Students who have concerns are strongly encouraged to seek the support listed in the chart.

Fitness to Study

This procedure sets out the steps that the College can take when there is a concern that a student’s behaviour or health is adversely impacting upon the welfare or academic progress of the student, or of others within the College, or has the potential to do so. In such cases, the College may need to take action to protect the best interests of the student concerned and other members of the College community.

Harassment and Sexual Misconduct

The College will take very seriously any allegation of harassment or misconduct. The College acknowledges the distress, anxiety, hesitation, and concerns students may feel in deciding to report sexual harassment or misconduct.
Tutors, the Wellbeing and Mental Health Advisor, the Fellow for Trinity Women, the chaplains and the College nurse are all available to support the students throughout this process. Students may find it helpful to consult the University’s Sexual Assault and Harassment Advisor. Complaints will normally be handled by the University’s Office of Student Conduct, Complaints and Appeals (OSCCA) in accordance with the University’s Procedure on Student Harassment and Sexual Misconduct.

Code of Practice for Student Complaints

The following document explains how students can raise complaints:

Disciplinary Procedure for Students

This procedure enables the College to consider whether a student has breached the standards of behaviour set out in the Code of Discipline and if so, to impose proportionate sanctions.

Policies on Personal Relationships

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education has a website which contains information and contact details.
