STEM SMART

Trinity College is excited to be a partner College in this year’s STEM SMART programme.

STEM SMART (Subject Mastery and Attainment Raising Tuition) is a University of Cambridge widening participation initiative, delivered in collaboration with Isaac Science. The free 16-month programme supports current UK Year 12 (or equivalent) students who are interested in applying to university courses in the sciences, engineering, or computer science.

Spanning students’ final two years of school, the programme is structured into three phases, offering weekly academic support, subject tutorials, mentoring, and enrichment activities. In August 2026, selected students will also have the chance to attend a four-day residential in Cambridge, hosted by one of the programme’s partner colleges, including Trinity.

The programme is designed to help raise attainment at sixth-form level and build students’ confidence to apply to competitive universities. You can find full details on the STEM SMART webpage.

STEM SMART provides complementary teaching and support to students who attend a UK maintained school (non-fee paying school) or are currently self-studying
UK students who will be 21 years or over when starting university (mature students) and:

  • have either experienced educational disadvantage or belong to a group that is statistically less likely to progress to higher education and
  • are considering applying to Engineering, Computer Science, Physical, Biological, or Behavioural Sciences courses at university and are studying A Levels (or equivalent) in maths and science.

A full breakdown of the programmes academic and non-academic eligibility criteria can be found on the STEM SMART webpage.

Applications are now open for students currently in Year 12. The deadline to complete the online registration form is 31 October 2025.

To apply, students should complete the online form. If you are studying at a school, college, or other educational institution, you’ll be asked to provide the name of a contact teacher who may be contacted to support your participation in the programme or to confirm your academic progress.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by 20 November 2025.
