Trinity team wins Cambridge Intercollegiate Quiz

Three teams of Trinity students competed in the annual Cambridge Intercollegiate Quiz (ICQ) tournament on 22 May and Team Trinity Kang won.

The quiz, under the auspices of Cambridge University Quiz Society (CUQS), was organised by Trinity Maths student Rhys Lewis who is also the incoming president of CUQS. The Society holds regular quiz practices prior to inter-university competitions, such as the Varsity match in May – and of course University Challenge!

Trinity Kang (pictured above) was captained by Ryan Kang, who is a first year PhD student in Chemistry, with Sarah Henderson, studying Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Agnijo Banerjee, in his first year of a PhD in Maths, and Jeremi Jaksina, a masters student in Genetics.

The newly-engraved trophy

Ryan said:

We really gelled as a team which made the ICQ much more enjoyable and no doubt helped with the quizzing. We really hope Jeremi can stay in Trinity for his PhD so we can keep the team together.

Throughout the ICQ we were only beaten by one other team – which happened to be another Trinity team! Well done to Lily Kearney (Captain), William Deacon, Thomas Frith, and Emily Man. Special mention to Liam Hughes, a previous University Challenge contestant for Trinity College who pushed us right till the end whilst playing on his own!
