Senior Tudors and Senior Tutor welcome students to Trinity

In an inventive play on the College’s history, Trinity College Students’ Union and the Tutorial Office have recruited founder Henry VIII and Elizabeth I to welcome students and convey COVID-19 messages in a clever and amusing way.

TCSU President and Vice Presidents Ludvig Brekke and Ben Clark said they thought a lot about how to welcome students at this challenging time.

Ludvig and I wanted this Freshers’ Week to be both fun and safe, and we thought this idea from the Senior ‘Tudor’ would be a great way to show this. All the people arriving think it’s really funny and keep posing for pictures!

Senior Tutor at Trinity, Professor Catherine Barnard is a not-so-secret admirer of Queen Elizabeth I who continued her father’s legacy by enabling the construction of the College Chapel in the sixteenth century.

Professor Barnard said

It’s wonderful to meet Freshers and welcome returning students this year – particularly during the ongoing public health situation. Everyone at Trinity has put a lot of work into the start of the new academic year to make the College as COVID secure as possible, and TCSU have really pulled out the stops for everyone’s arrival. It’s a great start to the new term.

Students can find out more about life at Trinity this term through a series of short of videos presented by current students.
