Royal Society Trivedi Science Prize shortlist for Dr Venki Ramakrishnan

Trinity Fellow Dr Venki Ramakrishnan’s book Why We Die: The New Science of Ageing and the Quest for Immortality is shortlisted for the the Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize 2024, which recognises the best popular science writing from around the world.

His book explains the latest scientific understanding of exactly why we age. It examines innovative efforts to extend lifespan, and raises profound questions around death, ageing, and how to increase the chances of living long, healthy and fulfilled lives.

The judging panel said:

Why We Die is such an important and timely read, covering a subject matter that we should all know more about, and talk more openly about. Ramakrishnan poses questions and sets out his topic in a welcoming and accessible way, combined with robust, cutting-edge research where he expertly weaves in insights from fellow scientists. It is beautifully written, making us reconsider the way we think about death, ageing, and the human experience.

The winner of the Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize 2024 will be announced on 24 October.
