They’ve done it! HUGE congratulations to Trinity alumna Imogen Grant and her rowing partner Emily Craig for Gold in the Lightweight Double Sculls at Paris 2024.
The Master of Trinity, Dame Sally Davies, said:
We are extremely proud of Imogen’s achievement at the Paris Olympics. Together with her rowing partner Emily, Imogen has shown incredible dedication, determination and resilience, as well as superlative organizational skills, juggling her academic and sporting commitments, including through the COVID pandemic.
Trinity College is a place of learning – and living life to the full, whatever your passion. We encourage students to pursue interests beyond their studies, whether that’s a new pursuit, for fun and relaxation, or at national and international level.

Alumnus Neil Talbott, who coached Imogen in her early days of rowing at Trinity, said from Paris:
Extraordinary performance to take apart a world-class field. Truly outstanding, and fitting that the fastest women’s lightweight double in history will be the reigning Olympic champions in this event forever. So much love and congratulations from the whole Imogen fan club in the stands here!

Imogen, who grew up in Bar Hill, had never been in a rowing boat before she came to Trinity to study Medicine in 2014. And she only got into boat because Trinity’s Boat Club offered a free drink to Freshers who signed up for a taster session.
Trinity Fellow, Rebecca Fitzgerald, Professor of Cancer Prevention at Cambridge, who enabled Imogen to take time out from her studies to train for rowing for Britain, said:
We are so excited to celebrate Imogen’s rowing success alongside her recent qualification from Trinity college as a doctor. Imogen’s remarkable rowing journey has been inspiring to watch and I am sure her determination to succeed and commitment to excel will stand her in excellent stead in her medical career.
Vice Master of Trinity, Professor Louise Merrett, said:
Congratulations and thank you Imogen, for showing us what one can achieve if you put your mind and body to it!

Imogen is the first female alumna to medal at an Olympics and one of more than 50 Trinity Olympians since 1902.
