First-year Engineering student

I am here both because of my parents’ and my own determination. My Dad was the first in our family to go to university. He had to work so much harder than his peers coming from a council estate in Leeds with the aim of raising his kids in a better position than he was – both having a better life in future and facing less discrimination in the world. Hopefully, I am able to do the same, not just for my own children but also for everyone coming from a background where higher education is not the norm.
