Natalie Tchernetska
My defining moment at Trinity
I spent nine years in Trinity, first as a graduate student, then a PhD, and finally a Junior Research Fellow. I arrived as a wide-eyed, ingenuous East European, barely speaking any English and not quite understanding how I had ended up at Trinity. I left with a solid research track record, friends for life, and great memories.
Among all places where I lived, Trinity is special, because it immediately made me feel that I belonged.
I vividly remember walking into the combination room for the first drinks hosted by the Tutor for Graduate Students, not knowing anyone there. A woman, the Tutor’s secretary, approached me with ‘Hello Natalie’. I did not know anyone, but Trinity already knew me.
For nine long years, whatever projects I pursued, or troubles I run into, Trinity would support and guide me. I attribute a lot of my academic success to Trinity environment.
Trinity made me feel that I belonged, and today, almost 25 years later, it still feels like home.
