Living History: Wanipa Ndhlovu
My defining moment at Trinity
My defining moment at Trinity was the Black Cantabs portrait exhibition. For the first time, I felt as though my blackness was something that brought me closer to Trinity, rather than setting me apart from it. I had my portrait taken in the Antechapel. Amongst the grandeur, the tradition and the huge, dominating white statues there was me, this ordinary 5-foot-something black girl! I should have felt small but instead I felt powerful, and I will never forget that feeling. Trinity is slowly transforming from this big scary institution into my home, and I can only hope that my next two years here will be just as challenging and strange and scary and beautifully empowering.
