Karen Hornbuckle
What surprised me the most
I was surprised when I learnt that female undergraduates had not been admitted until 1978. That was (just!) within my lifetime and not really that long before I matriculated in 1993, yet I had been oblivious to it whilst there.
I can’t say that I always felt entitled to be at Trinity, but I was never made to feel any less worthy of my place by virtue of my gender.
Perhaps I was lucky, but I never noticed any sexist comments. The Law Faculty had male and female Fellows and the only gender issue I noticed was when a wonderful gentleman asked how best to encourage women to speak more in supervisions.
I found Trinity a very pleasant, nurturing environment.
